What is the Average Life Expectancy of Equipment?

Whether you’ve just purchased a new unit or have moved into a home with a pre-existing unit, you may be wondering when to plan for its replacement.

HVAC units are a huge responsibility, and our first recommendation is to ensure you’re having routine maintenance performed so that the life expectancies are accurate. Be sure to change your air filter regularly, and reach out to a McCoy’s HVAC technician if anything appears wrong. Catching issues early can be make or break.

As for the life expectancy of your HVAC equipment, manufacturers have slightly different expectancies, but the averages are:

●      Air conditioners – 10 to 15 years

●      Boilers – 15 to 20 years

●      Ductless mini-splits – 10 to 30 years

●      Gas Furnaces – 20 to 30 years

●      Oil Furnaces – 10 to 15 years

●      Geothermal – 30 years

●      Heat pumps – 10 to 15 years

●      Tankless Water Heaters – 20 years

●      Water Heaters – 10 years

These estimates depend on where you live, but are relative to the Jackson, Tennessee, area.

To get the most bang for your buck and the most life out of your HVAC system, keep up with our blog for tips, tricks, and things to watch for. And, as we mentioned earlier, keep a regular maintenance schedule by changing your air filter, scheduling season tune-ups, and inspecting and cleaning your unit as you’re able.

If you notice your unit starting to break down, call us and an HVAC technician will inspect the unit as soon as possible.
